Wear Your Power as a Necklace
August 8 @ 14:30 - 16:00
In this workshop, we’ll combine lucky Chinese calligraphy with powerful symbols from Western cultures to create a one-of-a-kind talisman necklace. You’ll start by using a brush to write a Chinese character that reflects your current inner state—maybe “Joy,” “Calm,” or “Peace.” At the same time, you’ll draw a symbol of energy and protection, like the Ankh for life, an eye for awareness, or an image from your own imagination. These elements will be turned into ink marks on shrink plastic and soft engravings on brass, giving form to your personal wishes and feelings.
Through this mix of shape and meaning, you’ll make a wearable talisman with your own hands. Every stroke and every tap of the tool will be a small conversation with yourself. And when you wear the finished piece, it will be more than jewelry—it will be a quiet response to what you need, and a gentle way to carry your intention with you. This is a journey that begins with a wish and ends with something you can hold close.

About the Artists:
MO is a creative duo founded by two artists from the University of the Arts London. Based in London, they love bringing the quiet beauty of Chinese traditions into modern design—finding gentle ways to connect making with feeling, and hands with the body. They believe making isn’t just about creating things—it’s a way of thinking, and sometimes, a soft way of speaking. Each piece they create is a chance to pause, look inward, and make sense of emotions. For them, culture isn’t something distant—it’s something you can feel, wear, and carry with you in everyday life.

About Chinese Culture Week
Chinese Culture Week is an intercultural initiative that brings Chinese artists, creators, educators, and performers to one of the world’s largest arts festivals—the Edinburgh Fringe. First launched in 2024, CCW is designed not just as a showcase, but as a platform for meaningful cultural dialogue between China and the rest of the world. Through theatre, exhibitions, workshops, and live performances, CCW offers a rare opportunity to experience Chinese culture not as a monolith, but as a dynamic, evolving conversation.
CCW is curated and produced by the Intercultural Connections Initiative (ICI), a Scotland-registered community interest company dedicated to fostering cultural exchange through the performing arts. ICI is led by a young and international team of cultural producers, educators, and creative strategists, with roots in both East and West. Together, they bring a fresh perspective to global cultural engagement—one grounded in empathy, innovation, and long-term partnership.
